Meeting safely

Meeting safely, and what to do if it goes wrong

Meet where other people are.
A store entrance, a café, a library, a police station lobby. Daylight if you can. The pickup address on a listing is the organizer's choice; if it is a private home and you would rather not, say so in the thread and pick somewhere public together.
The pickup code is the handover.
You get a code when your share is ready; the organizer enters it when you collect. Give it in person, never in a message beforehand — a code shared early is a share somebody else can collect.
Cash at pickup is a choice, and it is yours.
If a listing allows cash at pickup you can pay when you collect and not before. Nobody on DealSplit should ask you to pay outside the app for a share, and a request to pay first through some other app is a reason to walk away and report the listing.
Map pins are deliberately fuzzy.
The pin on a listing is offset from the real address, and stays offset the same way every time, so it cannot be averaged out. The exact address is shown only once you hold a confirmed share. Do not put your own address in a message.
Tell somebody, or bring them.
For a larger pickup, a first meeting, or one that makes you uneasy, take a friend or share where you are going and when you expect to be back.
Check what you are collecting.
Look at the items before you enter the code or pay. A wrong item, a missing quantity or a damaged pack is exactly what a dispute is for, and it is easier to sort out on the spot.
Report, block, dispute.
Every listing, profile and message has a report button, and blocking somebody removes them from your feed and stops them messaging you. If something went wrong with a share you collected or paid for, open a dispute on it from My claims and a DealSplit reviewer reads both sides.
Trust your judgement.
A listing that seems too cheap, an organizer who will not answer plain questions, pressure to hurry: leave it. There will be another split.
