Short answers, in the order people usually ask them. Everything here describes what the product does today.
Getting started
What is DealSplit?
DealSplit is a local marketplace for splitting bulk purchases. Someone nearby who is buying a bulk pack — a warehouse-club case, a large bag, a multi-pack — posts it as a split divided into shares. Neighbors claim the shares they want, pay the organizer for their portion, and pick it up in person. Everyone gets the bulk price without buying more than they need.
How does DealSplit work?
Four steps. Find a split near you, by browsing your area or searching. Claim one or more shares; the listing shows the price per share and how many are left. Meet the organizer at the public pickup spot and time on the listing. Pay the organizer directly for your share, by cash or whatever method the listing names.
What is a "deal" and what is a "split"?
They are the same listing seen from two sides. A deal is a bulk purchase someone is offering to share; splitting it is dividing it into shares that other people claim. A share is one portion — for example one rack from a three-rack pack of ribs, or four rolls from a twelve-pack of paper towels.
Who can use DealSplit?
Anyone with an email address. Sign-up is open to the public: create an account on this website or in the free iPhone app, verify your email address, and you can browse, claim shares and organize splits straight away. Schools, food pantries and shelters can also be verified as community organizations, and shops as businesses.
Is DealSplit free?
Yes. Creating an account, claiming a share and organizing a split are free. DealSplit charges no fee and takes no cut of what you pay the organizer.
Where is DealSplit available?
DealSplit works anywhere in the United States that people post splits; what you see depends on where you set your location and the search radius you choose, from 1 to 50 miles. You can use your phone's location or enter a ZIP code — both work the same way.
Is DealSplit an app or a website?
Both. Everything works on this website in any browser, and the DealSplit iPhone app is free on the App Store for iOS 17 or later. There is no Android app yet; on an Android phone the website does everything. Your account is the same everywhere.
Splitting deals
How do I claim a share of a deal?
Open the listing and tap "Claim a share". The claim screen shows exactly what you will pay the organizer. Confirm, and the share is reserved for you. Some organizers approve each request first; in that case you are told when they say yes, and nothing is owed until then.
What happens after I claim a share?
You get a one-time pickup code and the organizer's pickup details — a public meetup spot and a time. You can message the organizer from the listing. At the handoff, the organizer scans or types your code, you pay them for your share, and the split is marked complete for both of you.
Can I create my own split?
Yes. Tap "Start a split", say what you are buying and from which store, enter the pack price and how many shares to divide it into — DealSplit calculates the price per share — then set a public pickup area and time. When you publish, people within their own search radius can see it and claim shares. You buy the pack, mark it purchased, and open pickup.
How many shares can a split have?
Between 2 and 20. The price per share is the pack price divided by the number of shares, rounded up to the nearest cent; the listing shows the rounding openly.
What if a split does not fill?
A listing says how many shares it needs and how many are taken. If it does not fill by its end time, the organizer can cancel it and everyone who claimed is released. Nobody pays for a split that does not happen.
Can I cancel a claim?
Yes, from My claims, as long as the organizer has not yet handed your share over. Cancelling releases the share for someone else.
Payments
Does DealSplit handle payments?
No. DealSplit never holds, processes or transfers money. You pay the organizer directly, and the organizer collects from each participant. DealSplit is the place you find the split, agree the pickup and confirm the handoff.
How do I pay for my share?
In person at the pickup, by the method the listing names — cash, or a payment app the organizer accepts. Each listing shows its accepted methods before you claim, and the claim screen repeats what you will owe. After paying, you can record it in the app so both sides have a note of it.
What if there is a payment problem?
Talk to the organizer first through the listing's messages. If a payment went through an outside service such as Venmo, PayPal, Zelle or Apple Cash, a dispute about that payment is handled with that provider. DealSplit Support can help with the listing, the claim and the people involved.
Pickup and safety
How does pickup work?
The organizer sets a general area everyone can see — a store, a car park, a library — and a pickup time. The exact meeting point is shared only with people whose share is confirmed. Each participant has a one-time code; the organizer scans or types it at the handoff to mark that share collected.
How does DealSplit keep meetups safe?
Listings show a general area, never a home address, and the exact spot is shared only after a share is confirmed. Every handoff is confirmed with a code, so both sides have a record. People have profiles with completed splits, reviews and badges earned from real handoffs, and you can report or block anyone from their listing, profile or message. DealSplit's safety guide recommends meeting in public places in daylight.
Does DealSplit share my exact location?
No. Your position is used only to show splits near you, and the app rounds it to about a kilometer before using it. Other members never see your exact location; a listing shows the general pickup area its organizer typed.
Account types
What can a personal account do?
Browse and search splits near you, claim shares, organize your own splits, message organizers and participants, join groups of people who split together regularly, post what you are looking for, and keep track of your claims, splits and pickups.
Can businesses use DealSplit?
Yes. A shop or supplier can create a business organization, get verified, and post splits under the business name with a console for its listings, orders, customer messages and staff. Members of the public claim shares the same way they do from a neighbor.
Can schools, pantries and community groups use DealSplit?
Yes. A verified community organization — a school, a food pantry, a shelter — can post a request for what it needs, and neighbors pledge items to it. Pledges are goods, never money.
How do I delete my account?
In the app under Profile → Settings → Delete my account, or on this site under Account settings. Deletion is immediate; completed transaction records are kept in anonymized form so other people's histories stay intact, and your name is removed from anything others can still see.
